Walk/Bike Plan

Walk/Bike Plans

Walk/Bike Plans, also known as Active Transportation Plans, provide a roadmap for communities to get people moving by foot, bike, and transit. Whether their focus is on health, safety, or economic development, a walk/bike plan provides a community the tools it needs to develop a network of pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly streets.

Based on resident and stakeholder input, walk/bike plans provide both infrastructure recommendations and programming ideas to enable and encourage more residents to choose walking, biking, and transit as convenient, healthy and low-cost ways to get around.

Plans guide communities through project implementation. They illustrate to residents, elected officials, municipal staff, and other entities a community’s vision and priorities to make walking, biking, and transit an integral part of daily life. Having an adopted plan will also open more opportunities for funding walk, bike, and transit infrastructure projects.
