Summit Explores the Power of Plant-based Eating
Cook County Department of Public Health, Cook County Health, and Loyola University Chicago, Health Sciences Division, held the 2019 Food Summit on October 4-5, 2019 at Loyola University Chicago, located at 2160 S. 1st Avenue in Maywood, Illinois. The 2019 Food Summit focused on the power of plant-based eating. During the Summit, public health professionals, health care providers, community-based organizations, and community members learned about the significant role food plays in preventing, developing, and resolving chronic diseases, as well as the ways nutrition can support the health and well-being of communities. National and local experts described the benefits of plant-based eating; how to incorporate more plant-based foods into our diets; and promising policy initiatives and programs that support making healthy eating more of a cultural norm.
