Healthy Homes and Lead Paint Hazard Grant Program

With funding from Cook County and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, CCDPH fixes lead paint and other health hazards in homes in suburban Cook County communities for families that qualify.

Program Benefits

  1. Inspection and repair of any lead paint hazards
  2. Healthy Homes, Water, and Energy Assessment and repairs through our partners, Elevate and Urban Efficiency
  3. Fix health hazards such as mold, pests, unsafe electrical, radon, structural repairs, or the need for weatherization. Lead hazard repairs typically include painting, replacing windows, or other home repair work to remove or contain the lead paint.
  4. All assessments, updates, and repairs at no cost to homeowners.

Program Eligibility

  • Own or rent a single-family home or a 2–4-unit multi-family building.
  • Home must be in suburban Cook County. (Chicago residents may learn more about available lead resources here. )
  • Home must be built before 1978.
  • A child under the age of six must live in, or frequently visit, the home.
  • Meet income requirements. For example, a family of four must have an income below $132,360 a year to be eligible. Full income eligibility requirements can be found below.

2023 Income Limits

Household incomes cannot exceed the amounts in the charts below for your family size. (Our Local Lead Grant Program uses a max of 120% AMI to qualify applicants.)

Select the grant application that suits your housing situation: Single Family Homeowner, Rental Owner, or Rental Resident. The links below provide options to complete the application process online or to print the application and submit (both English and Spanish PDFs available).

Supporting documentation is required along with your application. Specific documentation required depends on the type of application you are submitting, but this supporting documentation may include:

  • Photo IDs (driver’s license, state ID, passport, etc.)
  • Income information for eligibility purposes (W-2’s, paystubs, IRS 1099, etc.)
  • Recent mortgage statements or home payment receipts (if applicable).
  • Deed for the home (if applicable).
  • Current real estate tax bill (if applicable).
  • If a child under 6 only visits but does not live at the property, a Significant Time form must be completed.
