About the Cook County Medical Reserve Corps:
The Cook County Medical Reserve Corps (CCMRC) is an organized group of medical, non-medical and public health professionals willing to assist the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) during public health emergencies. CCDPH is the state certified public health agency for suburban Cook County with the exception of Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Oak Park, and Stickney Township, and we are currently recruiting volunteers for the CCMRC program to assist in our emergency response actions.
Current need for volunteers:
Health providers and federal, state and local health authorities are responding to an outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) virus which began circulating in the United States this past Spring. Since it first appeared, the H1N1 virus has caused illness, hospitalization and in some cases death. The CCDPH is planning to conduct mass vaccination efforts of those persons that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has categorized as a priority group. These priority groups include: pregnant women, persons aged 6 months through 24 years, caretakers of infants under 6 months of age, healthcare workers, and persons with underlying chronic health conditions.
We urgently need health professionals to assist with these vaccination efforts beginning in late October. We are most in need of licensed health professionals such as physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and emergency medical technicians (subject to state approvals regarding EMT vaccinators). Please consider volunteering your time to provide the H1N1 vaccine to help protect those most at risk. However, if you are not a licensed health professional, we also appreciate your willingness to volunteer and encourage you to register for the CCMRC program.
Whether you are already a member of another local Medical Reserve Corps program and are joining our program to assist with a County-coordinated response, or are enrolling for the first time with our program, we greatly appreciate your willingness to volunteer your valuable time.
