Private Wells and Semi-Private Wells
Any water well system that serves less than 25 people at least 60
days a year.
Permits
Applications are sent to this office to be reviewed and the permit
is issued if the system meets the requirements of the Illinois Water
Well Construction Code. Inspections
Inspections of existing wells are conducted upon request.
Non-Community Wells
A public water system that is not a community water system, that
serves at least 25 or more non-resident individuals daily for at
least 60 days of the year or has at least 15 service connections.
Surveys
A geological survey is conducted of every non-community site in
Cook County. During the inspection violations are noted and water
samples are taken.
Non-Community Non Transient Wells
A non-community water well system which regularly serves the same
25 or more persons at least 6 months a year. This is a subset of
the non-community list of wells which have additional requirements
for water sampling as per the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1986.
Sealings
Inspections are made when an abandoned well is filled with impervious
material in order to remove it permanently from service and thereby
protecting the aquifer from contamination.
Cappings
Authorization is given in the form of a letter to drillers who are
temporarily capping a well for a period of 1 year or less.
Mortgage Evaluations
We inspect properties which have a well or septic system or both
during the selling process in order to assure that the systems are
functioning properly and that the water is safe for drinking.
