The day care center program is a unique partnership between CCDPH and the Illinois
Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the day care
center licensing agency. We are not the enforcement agency and have
no county day care center ordinance. DCFS is the lead agency for
this program; CCDPH performs environmental inspections under the
DCFS "umbrella."
Inspections are performed at the request of DCFS. Currently, day
care centers under the jurisdiction of CCDPH are inspected approximately
once every three years. Whenever possible, day care centers are
inspected jointly with the local municipal health department and
DCFS partners.
Day care center operators making requests for inspections and consultations
must do so directly to their DCFS Licensing Representative. Day
care center operators may, however, call our main office to get
help interpreting Illinois Department of Public Health codes. Parents
must make their concerns and complaints known to DCFS at 312-328-2464.
