Boil Order
On August 24, 2004, the State of Illinois enacted Public Act 093-1020. Under the Act, all counties, townships, municipalities, public water districts, water service districts, water authorities and local water commissions must notify the certified public health department in its jurisdiction of all boil orders issued.
According to the Act:
If any of the above entities issues a boil order, the entity must notify any certified local public health department that serves an area subject to the boil order as soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours after issuing the order. Entities in Suburban Cook County shall contact the Cook County Department of Public Health’s Environmental Health Services Unit at 708-492-2035.
The entity must provide, to any affected certified local public health department, a written notification within 24 hours after issuing the boil order. In Suburban Cook County, written notification should be faxed to 708-492-2911.
