The Genetic Program is a provided service to determine an accurate diagnosis and provide information about a specific genetic condition. Genetic disorders are found at the birth of a child and referred to Cook County Department of Public Health for follow –up. Once a child has been referred for Genetic screening, a Cook County Department of Public Health nurse visits the home of the parents and baby to provide resource information concerning the child’s Genetic disorder and counseling for the parents concerning future pregnancies. Genetic counseling provides information regarding testing procedures, diagnosis, prognosis, available options, recurrence risks and support services. For more information, please call
