Prostate Cancer Screening

Prostate cancer is the second most common form of cancer among men in the United States. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, According to the Illinois Dept. of Public Health, 8,470 new cases of invasive prostate cancer will be diagnosed and approximately 1,310 men will die from the disease in 2006.

The prostate is a male sex gland and part of a man's reproductive system. About the size of a walnut, it is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. Prostate cancer is known as a silent disease because prostate cancer can be present and spread beyond the prostate by the time symptoms show up. Men typically delay going to the doctor until there is a problem, but men can take a proactive approach to their health by visiting their medical provider yearly for preventive screenings and a complete physical exam.

PSA screenings are offered at Adult Health Clinic locations as part of a complete physical exam. Call your district office for locations.

PSA screenings are offered as part of men's health events at churches and community sites. To request PSA screenings at a community site, please call (708) 492-2063 or complete a request form and fax to (708) 492-2913.
