The purpose of these hearings is to illuminate the social and human costs of obesity and to highlight existing state and community level initiatives; identify existing plans and opportunities for action and expansion of initiatives; inform policy makers and the public about effective solutions to the problem; and identify and engage stakeholders to promote action to reduce obesity, improve nutrition and increase physical activity.
