October 24-30, 2010 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. During this week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Region 5 will host five consecutive webinars targeting specific audiences that are affected by the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule. As you know, the RRP Rule became law on April 22, 2010 and requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child-care facilities, and schools built before 1978, be certified by the USEPA and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. The webinar will cover:
• An overview of the RRP rule
• New changes to the RRP rule
• Compliance to the RRP rule
• Enforcement of the RRP Rule in Region 5
The webinars will address specifically how the rule affects the targeted audience and will facilitate more information sharing during the Q & A sessions. As a building official, you and your staff are encouraged to participate in one of sessions listed below, as well as encourage participation from your local contractors, realtors, property managers or other interested parties.
