For more than 10 years there was a steady decline in youth smoking rates, but recently declines are negligible and appear to be stalled.  Preventing youth tobacco use is complex and requires a multi-component approach .  What works for teens, may not work for kids in middle school and what works today, doesn’t work 100 percent of the time.  Dr. Sussman, a principal investigator in several prevention programs, will briefly describe the research on available programs and outline the key components needed to counteract tobacco industry influence.
