4th Quarter Suburban Cook County Intimate Partner Violence Network and Coalition Presents: Intimate Partner Violence Impact on Children

June 27, 2012 10:00am - 12:00pm

Please join the Suburban Cook County Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Leadership Network and Coalition in a panel discussion as leaders in the child welfare and domestic violence fields share information and strategies to build health care providers’ capacity to identify, screen, and refer families affected by IPV and child abuse. *2 CEUs, (continuing education units) will be available for full attendance.*

DCFS representatives Nisha Patel, LCSW, Statewide Administrator for the Domestic Violence Intervention Program and Jerrilyn Pearson-Minor, Chief Nurse, Division of Clinical Practices and Development and Colleen Sutkus, Associate Program Director for Sarah’s Inn will discuss:

 -  How medical providers play an important role in preventing child abuse and domestic violence through patient screening and education,

 -  Effective screening questions health care providers can use to determine if intimate partner violence is occurring in the home,

 -  The co-occurrence of child abuse and intimate partner violence,

 -  The harmful effects IPV has on children,

 - The types of victims and perpetrators services/resources Sarah’s Inn offers to combat the negative impact IPV has on families.

Additionally, learn about the Coalition’s Illinois Health Cares year-4 grant renewal. You will also have an opportunity to share your hospital’s/organization’s updates relevant to intimate partner violence. Light refreshments will be served.
