Ebola

Several districts in Uganda are experiencing an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). On October 7, travelers from Uganda began being routed to five airports in the United States, including O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

To limit EVD exposures and spread, health departments in Illinois, including CCDPH, are monitoring travelers in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines, and providing information about what to do if symptoms develop.

Currently, there are no known cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in suburban Cook County, and the risk to the general public is extremely low.

Ebola can spread when people come into contact with infected blood or body fluids. Ebola poses little risk to travelers or the general public who have not cared for or been in close contact (within 3 feet or 1 meter) with someone sick with Ebola.
